It is no secret that Beer Palace NZ (Vanbrugh/Schooner Bay NZ) has been a challenging horse to train but today he paid back all the hard work by winning on debut at Newcastle, Monday 20th June 2022. We had to wait until the last race, decimated by scratchings due to the Heavy 10 track conditions, the Rarity Wholesale Maiden Handicap run over 1200m to see him take his place.

Beer Palace paraded in good order and was well-behaved on his way to the barriers with Tom Sherry aboard. Jumping from barrier 4 he was immediately eased to the back of the field, allowing the battle for the lead to occur upfront. He travelled wide throughout and came out even wider on the turn to position himself on the extreme outside fence. In the straight, Tom let him know it was go-time and he responded by putting nearly 3 lengths on the pack to come away with the satisfying win.

Congratulations to the ownership group, may Beer Palace provide many more thrills to come.
