It was a big thrill to have Diamond Thunder take out the listed Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick today Saturday 26thOctober 2019 over 1200m. Unfortunately, Patrick Lee the usual representative of his father in law Mr KK Ng, was unable to attend the meeting at the last minute. We soon gathered up some friends and stable clients to celebrate the win on Patrick’s behalf.

Diamond Thunder (Dawn Approach/Kwinana) has always had the talent. A bit of a handful early, it wasn’t until he was gelded that he started to show his real potential. Today he showed his class. From barrier one he jumped well, with Jockey Josh Parr hugging the fence. He was soon taken on by Cardiff (Snitzel/Cariad) but didn’t waste energy contesting the lead, content with second position. At the turn, he came off the fence slightly to find clear going. Meanwhile Faretti (I Am Invincible/Tai Tai Tess) had snuck up on the rail and decided to push out from there. Diamond Thunder collected a fairly decent bump as the other horse tried to come out. Many horses would have compounded after such a knock, but the tough Diamond Thunder recovered quickly, regained his composure and went on to win by three quarters of a length.

Diamond Thunder will have a short spell to freshen him, targeting the Magic Millions’ Guineas, run in January 2020. Congratulations to his owners and connections, with plenty more to come.
