Dreaming the impossible dream, Don Quixote (Pierro/La Reve) headed to Newcastle Saturday 28th January 2023 to contest race 4, the Horsepower Maiden Plate over 1850m.

He jumped fairly from the widest gate, taking up a position second last on the fence. Ridden superbly by jockey Rory Hutchings, never panicking instead keeping his mount at a comfortable gait. Just after the 800m mark he started gathering momentum to begin circling the field, presenting wide on the turn. Once in the straight, Don Quixote finding clear air, accelerated to the line, impressively drawing away from the pack to win by just over 2 lengths.

Congratulations to a very patient ownership group as Don Quixote took an extensive period of time to recover from injury, making the win all the more sweeter. We look forward to seeing this horse in the winners’ circle again soon.
