Backing up from last week’s second placing at Flemington, Dragonstone (Mikki Isle/Quick’s the Word) returned home to contest the listed Bob Charley AO Stakes over 1100m at Randwick, Saturday 11th June 2022.

Ridden by Jockey Tom Sherry, Dragonstone was last out of the gates and had to settle near the rear of the field. As he tried to improve, he was three-wide for most of the trip but at the turn Tom allowed him to come out even wider still. Once he found clear air he accelerated, easily accounting for his rivals in the straight. Scoring by nearly two lengths in the end, much to the delight of his owners.

It was such an honour and a privilege to win for the patient ownership group as much as it was for the namesake of this race. The trainer has known Mr Bob Charley since he was a young boy, making the significance of the win that much more poignant. As for Dragonstone, he may be a small horse compared to some, but he is all-heart and deserved this win unequivocally.
