Mark with LanciatoFORMER Kiwi galloper Lanciato will become trainer Mark Newnham’s first city runner when he contests the tab.com.au Benchmark 74 Handicap at Rosehill on Saturday.

Lanciato is first-up for the Newnham stable since arriving from New Zealand and recently ran an eye-catching run third in a Rosehill barrier trial.

“He is a quite a nice horse that has shown his fare share of ability at home since joining our stable,” Newnham said.

“But I don’t think we will see his best till he gets to a mile or 2000m.

“He tended to get back in his more recent runs in NZ but from a good draw on Saturday he should be able to settle a touch closer around midfield depending on how fast they go.

“His better runs appeared to have come on firmer going so if it is to get very wet there is a good chance I could scratch him.

“But if the rain stays away I expect him to run well and give a good sight at odds.”

Lanciato will be the stable’s third runner to date with Anisha entered for Gosford on Friday.

“I’m rather enjoying the new change, we currently have 11 in work and will have 12 as of next week,” Newnham said.

“It’s a slow process but things are starting to come together nicely now.”
