Hawkesbury has been a happy hunting ground of late for the stable. Today, 13th November 2019 we saw Gone Bye (Al Maher/Gone Platinum) debut and win in the Killahy Equine Maiden Plate over 1300m. The 3yo gelding was bred by our Office Manager Maureen Chalmers and is raced by the Chalmers Family.

It was a big thrill to win with Maureen’s horse first up. She plays such a vital role in the day to day running of Mark Newnham Racing. Keeping it all close to home, Gone Bye was ridden by our apprentice jockey Robbie Dolan who knows this horse so well, having ridden him in most of his trackwork and trials.

Gone Bye jumped from Barrier 7 to eventually settle in second position. Kept comfortable and relaxed by Dolan throughout the race it wasn’t until Godolphin’s Zakat challenged him late that he had to dig deep and refused to sit down. It was a nail-biting finish, but he got the judge’s nod right on the line.

Congratulations to the Chalmers family on Gone Bye’s winning debut. Hopefully this is the first of many more wins in store.
