The first of a winning double today at Randwick 3rd April 2019 belonged to emerging 2yo Deep Sea (Deep Field/Isabel Street). He was selected by Joe Lau at the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale in November last year and today made his debut in the Headwater @ Vinery Handicap over 1150m.
Deep Sea did everything wrong, throwing his head up and racing wide throughout, yet still he managed to take the lead at the 150m for a handy 1¼ length win. Jockey Josh Parr had ridden this horse in his trackwork and trials, so was familiar with his bad manners. Josh just allowed Deep Sea to go through his antics without getting into a fight with him. Once straightened he unleashed his natural talent to score an impressive first up victory.
This horse is owned by our biggest supporters, the Hong Kong based Chen family and our good friends William and Diane Ouston. Once Deep Sea puts it all together, I’m sure there will be many more wins to come.
The second victory of the day went to the stable stalwart Quackerjack. The newly gelded Quackerjack (Not A single Doubt/Quack It) showed a much more focussed approach to his racing today. He jumped well from barrier 1 and led all the way to take out the Australian Turf Club Handicap over 1300m, bringing up the double for the winning combination of Newnham/Parr. Also, this was the first winner strapped by Hamish Davidson who has waited patiently for this moment to arrive.
A very good day for the stable and congratulations to all connections.
