A Friday night meeting at Canterbury 6th January saw the unpredictable Sydney weather put on a show of its own. The torrential deluge resulted in the track being rated a Heavy 8, but this did not deter Lavish Empire (Spieth/Kissame Mucho) from revelling in the conditions. The field for race 1 was decimated by scratchings, resulting in just four horses contesting the Kia Ora Captivant Handicap over 1100m.

After jumping in front from Barrier 3, Lavish Empire led throughout, coming away from them in the straight to win by 7.5 lengths. Rated perfectly by Nash Rawiller under the most testing of circumstances.

Congratulations to the Owners, Vince Ferraro of Capri Racing and all of the connections. This talented horse has plenty more thrills in store
