Owners, Greg & Elaine Sturgiss and Paul & Barbara Wagner, took the long trip from Rockhampton to Wagga Wagga (via Canberra) to watch their horse compete in the Murrumbidgee Turf Club’s feature race held Thursday, 6th May 2021. Of course, Marway (Hemingway/Maredemah) did not disappoint and duly saluted in the Iron Jack Wagga Town Plate over 1200m.
Marway, ridden by stable Apprentice Jockey Tom Sherry, jumped well from barrier 8, emerging from the pack to immediately go to the front. Maintaining the lead, he kept control of the race and at the 250m mark he kicked away, blitzing the field to win by 4 lengths. It was such a dominant win in near-track record time, it was hard not to be impressed.
Congratulations to his owners, whose belief in ‘Mickey’ took them halfway around the country, crossing three state lines to finally arrive in Wagga Wagga, where they were fittingly rewarded for their efforts.
