It was the well named 3yo Colt Onchao, the son of Medaglia D’Oro, out of Grand Daughter that took out the Donnica Clarke Foundation Maiden Handicap at Gosford, 21st November 2020, over 1200m in distance.

Onchao (meaning Golden Son) ridden by jockey Mitchell Bell, jumped well from the inside barrier, and was left alone hugging the fence. The lead was briefly contested by two other runners in the race, but they proved no match for the colt. He regained the control at the 800m mark, winning comfortably by 1.5 lengths in the end. Onchao was a little wayward in the straight demonstrating that he is still very green, but with the impressive win he still has a lot of upside.

Sporting the Orange and Purple colours of Spendthrift Australia, it was the Stable’s second winner for the mega group owned by American businessman, B. Wayne Hughes. The win was a great thrill, and it was very pleasing that we were able to repay the trust and support shown to us by the connections.
