Today, Saturday 7th March 2020 Shadow Hero (Pierro/Sookie) took out the Group 1 Mostyn Copper Randwick Guineas over 1600m, claiming the first leg of the coveted three-year-old triple crown series. Coming off a disappointing run in the Victorian Derby late last year he was friendless in the betting, blowing out to 6/1, but the trainer insisted that this time the soft going was not going to be an issue.

A clinical ride by jockey Josh Parr saw everything go to script. He jumped from barrier 4 and settled in the run about mid field on the fence. Maintaining an easy tempo throughout the race, a gap presented itself at the turn. Horse and rider seizing the opportunity to come off the fence, giving themselves the space they needed. Ears back, extending low to the ground Shadow Hero surged between runners Brandenburg (3rd) and Microphone (2nd) at the 200m mark, then powered to victory, winning by three quarters of a length.

It was tremendous to have Hong Kong based owners David Lui, Karl and Amber Chan in Sydney for the race who were joined by friend Andy Sze to witness this special win. This now makes Shadow Hero the stable’s first horse to win over 1 million dollars in prizemoney. The horse will now be aimed at the Rosehill Guineas (2000m) run in a fortnight’s time and the ultimate prize, the ATC Australian Derby (2400m) on 4th April.

Congratulations to everyone involved in achieving this perfect moment in racing.
