The final day of the 2019/2020 Racing Season saw the stable finish with a double at Wyong 31st July 2020, bringing our total winners to 68 (up 10 winners from last year’s tally).
The first winner came in the form of well-bred filly Malfy (Dundeel/Belle Giselle) in race one, the De Bortoli Wines Maiden Handicap over a mile. Sporting the colours of the Cloros Family she was the only filly in the race. After jumping she was positioned mid-field by Apprentice Tom Sherry, kept comfortable and relaxed throughout. At the turn she followed up fast finishing Rainbow Man, closed in and grabbed the spoils on the line for a very satisfying win.
The second win was in the third race, the NSW Jockeys’ Association 3yo Maiden Plate over 1350m, where Sweeping Brook (Hinchinbrook/Deverra) finally got to salute the judge. His early racing career was interrupted by a lengthy recovery period from an untimely injury and on resuming, his previous two starts saw him pipped on the line both times. However, today he was the best supported horse on course with a very big owners group present who were soon rewarded for their patience and faith in the horse. He made us all proud, coming out of the widest barrier in number 10 and kept wide throughout the race by our new Apprentice Jockey Tyler Schiller, to where the better going was (track rated a Heavy 8). To his credit he did it all with consummate ease and was coming away from them in the end for an emphatic win, amid huge cheers from his fan club.
Another good day for the stable and congratulations to all connections.
